Malmedy is surrounded by numerous hills and nature is omnipresent. This quickly becomes clear to every hiker. The route climbs steeply up a slope after just a few meters. This ascent continues as far as Hédomont. Once at the top, the effort of the ascent is rewarded by the view over the high plateau. The landscape here is not characterized by uniform coniferous forests, but by lush, green hedges. In spring, fields of flowers are in full bloom as far as the eye can see. The Houyîre forest stretches a little further on. In sunny summer weather, it is a delight to cross this shady forest. The path swings through the deciduous forest and reaches a ford. At the edge of the forest, hikers are treated to a magnificent view. It extends over the hilly landscape of St. Vith to the lower-lying Amel valley, which we reach via a steeply descending path. In Pont, the path runs above the river. In Ligneuville, the route moves away from the watercourse and starts to climb steeply again. The total positive difference in altitude at the end of the hike is a whopping 430 meters, not bad for a "flat" country, as they like to call it ...
