Tausenundeine Stufe- Monschau für Bergziegen

Monschau

From the hiking parking lot, the trail first leads down to the Rur. After crossing the river, the trail climbs up to the Rahmenberg and finally through Stehlingsstraße and Kirchstraße with their historic buildings. The Red House and the old town hall with its onion dome, which was already visible from the Haller, cannot be missed.

The castle is the next highlight of the tour. The mighty donkey tower gives an impression of the castle's former defensive strength. Thanks to numerous restoration measures, the castle has regained much of its former majesty.

The descent begins just behind the castle chapel. The "Haus im Turm" at the end of the Stadtstraße is the only building to have survived the destruction of the town in 1543 unscathed. After crossing the Rur, you reach the town park with the Antonius Chapel. From there, a steep path leads through an impressive natural scenery with a wild mountain stream and mighty rocks.

You reach the "Eifel-Blick" on the Kierberg via what is probably the most beautiful panoramic path in the old town. The vantage point offers a clear view of the castle and the sea of slate on the roofs of the old town. The route of the "Eifelsteig" takes you down to the market square, which is one of the most idyllic places in Monschau with its magnificent half-timbered houses, the Rurbrücke bridge and the Tuchmacherbrunnen fountain.

The descent to the parking lot offers a final view of the Rahmenberg and the Haller.
