WasserWeg Omerbach / Inde
The thematic focus of this themed trail is on cultural history (industrial and settlement history), renaturation and flood protection. A total of 15 information boards and stations along the route provide exciting stories and all kinds of useful information.
The route starts at Eschweiler-Weisweiler station. First, the trail leads through the cultural park on the left-hand side of the Indes. Here we get a brief insight into the history of Weisweiler. We then cross the Inde and walk past the old railroad bridge of the former Weisweiler briquette factory, which tells a revealing story about the industrial culture of the region. After crossing the renaturalized section of the Inde and gaining a deep insight into the near-natural transformation of the watercourse, the route continues along the Inde dyke to the mouth of the Omerbach.
At this point, the Omberach mountain stream joins the course of the Inde. We cross the Omerbach and head south past Nothberg railroad station. The trail then leads through the flood-ravaged village of Nothberg along the Omerbach to the Nothberg flood retention basin (HRB). Here we learn something new about flood protection before following the Omerbach to Gressenich (approx. 5 km). We pass the Gressenich mill, among other things. In Gressenich, we then turn south at the Ursula Chapel to follow the piped Omerbach to the Buche 19 hiking parking lot. Once there, we follow the signs to the left until we reach the church in Schevenhütte.
