Isn't it nice to walk through this region in the off-season! The village of Schönberg regains its serenity, which it loses a little during the peak tourist season. Two months later, the atmosphere is completely different. Along the path that leads up to the top of the hill, the closed windows of the chalets herald the approach of winter. Wet weather accompanies us every step of the way up to the ridge line.

At the summit, the wind drives away the clouds that still cover the valley we have just left. The Eifel shows all its advantages when it is covered in this autumn mist. Now the path leads down the slope. The Treisbach valley is once again completely peaceful, as we have experienced on many hikes in the eastern cantons. In October and November, lone hikers get their money's worth on weekdays. At the turn of a bend, the white-clad steeple of Mackenbach church announces the return to the village.
