Waldlehrpfad Einruhr
The 5.5 km long tour begins at the Heilsteinhaus in Einruhr. The fountain of the same name is also located here. It owes its name to the supposed healing effect of the water, which was probably already known to the Romans, as coin finds suggest. The people of Einruhr were initially denied access to the spring after the Second World War, as it has its source in the former Vogelsang military training area. This only changed in 2003 with the construction of the healing stone fountain in the inner courtyard of the Heilsteinhaus. The refreshing water should be tasted!
We walk through the center of the small but interesting village. After leaving the village and crossing the B266, we reach the starting point of the forest nature trail. This was set up in 2004 by the forestry department of the municipality of Simmerath. Over a distance of approx. 2 km, it impressively shows the diversity of the forest. Information boards along the nature trail provide interesting background information. After leaving the trail, we follow one of the river loops of the Rur before crossing it via the St. Michael footbridge. The bend in the river can be clearly seen from the footbridge. In this area, below Dedenborn, the Rur flows in wide loops through the valley due to the low gradient. The route continues along the Rur floodplains towards Einruhr. Shortly before this, we pass Pleushütte. The former village is now covered by the waters of the Obersee. There was once an ironworks there and the workers lived there with their families. The village's demise was sealed when the Rur dam was raised. The inhabitants were relocated, houses were demolished and the area was finally flooded in 1957.
Now it's back to Einruhr, where the beautiful tour ends and you can round off the day in one of the many cozy cafés.
Tip: If you want to hike a little longer, you can combine the hike with trail 35 and extend it to approx. 8 km.
