Von Erkensruhr durch das Püngel- und Wüstebachtal

The start and finish of this hike is the Finkenauel parking lot in Erkensruhr/Hirschrott. The almost 15-kilometre circular trail takes around four hours to walk through part of the Eifel National Park, along Erkensruhr, Püngel and Wüstebach. A large part of the hike runs through beech and mixed forests, but the forest opens up in some places and the trail leads through meadows and open land. Püngelbach and Wüstebach show the structures of typical Eifel low mountain streams. In places, the course of the stream is deeply cut into a notch valley and can only be seen from the path from time to time, but can always be heard. Remnants of the riparian forests that once lined the stream valleys can still be seen in places.

The route consists of surfaced paths and small tracks. The inclines and declines are not extreme, but sure-footedness is required in a few places. All paths are marked on the hiking map. First you follow the Rur-Olef route upstream above Erkensruhr, then you follow the T3 themed tour, which you only leave for a short section that leads along the Püngelbach stream as a narrow path.
