The tour leads through one of the most beautiful landscapes in the Netherlands - the so-called Heuvelland, which also means hill country. The name is due to the fact that it borders on the foothills of the Eifel/Ardennes, which gives the region its completely atypical character for the Netherlands: wide and gentle hilly landscapes - in contrast to the otherwise thoroughly flat Netherlands! The landscape along the route is characterized by nostalgic little villages and towns surrounded by lush green pastures and colourful orchards. The Geul and Gulp streams, which shaped the landscape centuries ago, accompany parts of the route and babble quietly along today. The numerous marl houses are also characteristic of the region. The soft 70 to 80 million year old sandstone is an important component of cement, comes to the surface in Zuid-Limburg and was often used to build houses, so you will come across many marlstone houses along the route.
