Via Belgica: Etappe 5 (Wandern) von Jülich bis Aldenhoven
The fifth stage of the via Belgica starts in the former fortified town of Jülich. After just a few hundred meters, we reach the first information stele and can find out more about the Roman roadside settlement of Neubourheim. Further on, we pass Engelsdorf Castle, which dates back to the 11th century and can look back on an eventful history. We walk through the flat Bördeland landscape, with further information points providing information about former Roman settlements in the fields. With the spoil tip of the former Emil Mayrisch mine, we finally reach the first of numerous spoil tips that will accompany us in our field of vision from now on, reminding us of the region's coal and mining past.
