Rennradtour: Am Fuße der Nordeifel
Stolberg
On this 55 km tour at the foot of the northern Eifel, you will experience the diversity of the landscape around the copper town of Stolberg: flat Bördeland landscapes, renaturalized and still active open-cast mines in the north - dense green Eifel forests, wild streams and reservoirs in the south. The area around the copper town of Stolberg offers ideal terrain for racing cyclists.
The tour starts in Stolberg's old town and leads us from there via Vicht up towards Gressenich for the first time, giving us a foretaste of the metres in altitude to be climbed towards the end of the tour. From Gressenich, however, the route is mostly flat for the first time towards the Inden open-cast mine - this is where the "Börde mountain climb" of the day awaits: the Indemann. Once you reach the top, you have a great view and impressive views of the open-cast mining landscape. After that, however, the route continues flat for the first time past the Lucherberger See lake and over the bridge over the A4 towards Echtz.
Here you can already see the challenges waiting to be tackled a short time later from Gürzenich. For the first time, the route climbs steadily uphill for just under 5 km towards Rennweg and down to Schevenhütte, where it immediately climbs again over a 3 km ascent to the highest point (320 m) of the tour before a beautiful descent down to Vicht. The last few kilometers are flat until you reach the beautiful old town of the copper town of Stolberg, where numerous cafés invite you to linger.
