The North of the CitiesRegion Aachen
Herzogenrath
This varied circular tour takes you through the northern part of the StädteRegion. Immerse yourself in an exciting mixture of industrial culture and fascinating landscape. The route connects a total of six slagheaps: Anna-Noppenberg, Anna I and II, Adolf, Carl-Alexander and Carolus Magnus. Following recultivation, a wide range of leisure activities, breathtaking viewpoints and fascinating natural landscapes have been created on the individual slag heaps. An absolute highlight is the viewpoint in Carl Alexander Park, which can be reached via a suspended footbridge. The ascent is rewarded with a breathtaking view of the region. In addition to the slag heaps, various industrial monuments such as the Alsdorf-Busch mining settlement, the Anna/Energeticon energy landscape or the Grube Adolf winding engine house in Herzogenrath bear witness to the mining history of the region. Numerous castles, palaces and monasteries along the route are also reminders of days long gone when dukes and knights still roamed the land. The scenery along the route is also impressive thanks to the idyllic forest, field and meadow landscapes along the Wurm and Broichbach valleys. The river courses, most of which are natural and some of which are protected, are home to a diverse range of flora and fauna. The local recreation area in Broichbachtal, which is located directly on the route and has a free zoo and boat hire, is particularly inviting for families with children. Things to do.
