Rund um die Kupferstadt Stolberg
Stolberg
The beautiful copper town of Stolberg is located on the northern edge of the Eifel, which is why there are a few meters of altitude to conquer on this 46 km tour, so much in advance. However, the effort is rewarded with beautiful mountain trails, dense green forests and a great nature experience! Surrounded by the town's landmark castle, magnificent half-timbered houses, historic copper courtyards and cobblestone pavements under the tires, this varied tour takes you through one of the earliest industrial regions in Central Europe. The Inde and Solchbach stream and river valleys in particular, which are protected nature reserves, offer a very special landscape experience. The tour also has a lot to offer culturally: the Zinkhütter Hof is a museum for the industrial, economic and social history of the Aachen region and shows the development of one of the oldest industrial regions in Central Europe. The former copper mills located along the route are representative of the centuries-old tradition of metal processing. Alt Breinig is considered the "pearl of the Münsterland" and presents itself with a harmonious and lively townscape. On the south-eastern edge, you will encounter the very early village structures near the now disused "Schomet" quarry, whose quarry and bluestone has characterized the "Alt Breinig" street, which has been consistently and meticulously renovated since 1980. The crowning glory of the tour is the historic town center of Stolberg itself. The castle, the town's landmark and cultural meeting place, rises above the historic old town and the unique copper courtyards and old churches are witnesses to Stolberg's industrial development and heyday in the 17th/18th century.
