indeland-Radroute 7: Sophienhöhe
The Sophienhöhe rises 200 meters above the agricultural landscape of the Jülich Börde, making it a respectable mountain that can be seen from afar. It is almost completely wooded and has therefore been a popular local recreation area for many years. Not only walkers, runners and dog lovers from the immediate region visit it. Many visitors also come from further afield. There are parking lots for hikers at the foot of the mountain. The Sophienhöhe itself is completely free of car traffic and offers more than 100 kilometers of hiking trails. The tour is 15 kilometers long and leads through a varied landscape of forests, fields and meadows. In addition to the Brückenkopf Park and the Jülich Citadel, the Hambach Forest and a historic milepost on the Cologne-Jülich Roman highway are among the sights along the way.
