Hochgelegenes Land - Weywertz
The village of Weywertz lies a proud 550 meters above sea level. The route takes advantage of this high plateau to take hikers along paths and trails that are moderately steep. The first few kilometers lead to the banks of the Warche, which flows in a wide valley below the village. Here the Warche is still calm, but much further downstream, where it carves a path through the mountain massif near Reinhardstein Castle, it turns into a torrent. A little later, the path narrows, then winds its way through banks and trees and flows into a wild landscape where few people stray.
At the edge of the "Black Hill" forest, magnificent views open up: the area is one of the coldest in Belgium, especially in winter when the prevailing high-altitude winds whip the plateau. You leave the forest and the path slowly leads into a more open landscape. Near Nidrum, the route adapts to the relief curves and leads the hiker through the village's hedgerow landscape.
