Gouley-Tour Würselen - Morsbacher Heide
Würselen
Disappeared and yet present.
Over five hundred years old, closed for half a century. The Gouley mine in Würselen was at times the most successful in the Wurm district and employed over 3,200 people.
Until 1969, a mighty railroad viaduct bridged the Wurm at Teuterhof and connected the mine to the regional railroad network. Today, we walk along the former railroad embankment for a while, with another bridge peeking out of the bushes along the way.
The von-Goerschen tunnel gurgles along the edge of the path. It was initially intended for coal extraction, but later provided drainage for the Gouley mine and still does today. As the local coal seams reach right to the surface, it has even been possible to mine coal on the surface of the Wurmtal slopes since the Middle Ages. On the tour, we come across a steep coal seam with coal you can touch.
