Feierabendrunde Würselen-Morsbach
On this after-work tour, we follow in the footsteps of the Gouley mine, which was first mentioned in 1599. Up to 3,200 people were employed here. The mine closed in 1969 and is commemorated by an old mine train and a plaque on the former winding tower, which was blown up in 1994. On the way, we come across miners' settlements with their characteristic rows of houses. In the valley, right on the edge of the path, water gurgles from the von Görschen tunnel. Initially intended for mining, it later drained the mine and continues to do so to this day. There was a railroad line for transporting coal to the briquette factory in Kohlscheid. Our path leads along the embankment for a while, with the remains of an old railroad bridge peeking through the greenery. The Haldeder mine is unusual because it is built into the valley on a slope. On the way and from a viewing platform, we can take a look at the black overburden. In contrast to this is the landscape installation with white "dinosaur eggs", reminiscent of the nearby lime dump of a former soda factory.
