Eifelsteig Partner hike - the Water Landscape Route

Simmerath

On this hike, you’ll discover that it’s with good reason that the Eifel Lake District is known as the “Amazon of the Eifel” as you experience the lakes of Obersee, Urftsee, and Schwammenauel at the Rur Valley Dam. This hike starts and ends in Einruhr and goes around the Obersee Lake, passing the Urftsee dam, through Rurberg and there crossing the Paulushof Dam. It offers hikers an amazing variety of wood, water and green space. From Einruhr, the hike takes you along the shores of the Obersee Lake with spectacular lake views at every turn, and then at Rurberg takes you across the Rur lake over the dam. You will encounter tranquil and elegant nature scenes everywhere you look, as the hike takes you straight through the heart of the only national park in the state of Nordrhein-Westfalen. Many of the rare plants and animals you will see in the national park are found only here, and sightings of wild animals are common on the hike. Much of the landscape is dense deciduous forest. Along the way, there are plenty of places to stop for a picnic overlooking the lake.
