Eifel-Höhen-Route - Etappe 1 Blankenheim-Hellenthal

Blankenheim

From Blankenheim with its medieval town gates, the source of the Ahr, the Grafenburg castle and the late Gothic parish church, the route first takes you to the Freilinger Freizeitsee lake, which offers a wide range of leisure and water sports facilities and invites you to take your first break.Whether fishing, diving, boating, surfing or swimming, albeit at your own risk, spacious sunbathing lawns, a forest nature trail, mini golf and barbecue facilities, there is something for everyone here. The route continues towards Dahlem, where a detour to the Dahlemer Binz glider airfield is recommended. Through the Prethtal valley, you finally reach Hellenthal, idyllically situated on the Oleftalsperre dam, where the game reserve and the bird of prey station are well worth a visit. There is also a 13 km long, well-developed circular route around the dam for cyclists and hikers. It offers many beautiful views and insights. A detour to the castle village of Reiferscheidt with its imposing castle complex is also worthwhile.
