Durch die "Steppenlandschaft" der Eifel
The huge beech trunks show us the way. At the start of the hike, we follow a pretty path that meanders moodily along the mountainside. In the hollow of the valley, the Hill flows, carrying the red-black water that the Venn has given it.
The colors mix with the colorful autumn palette. The hike leads upstream and the watercourse becomes wilder with every step. The path becomes narrower and narrower until you have to hold on to the railing to climb the hill! The view is magnificent.
Slowly, the forest becomes thinner, the tall grasses slowly take hold and announce the nearby fens. The landscape looks incredibly like a steppe - what a change! You will have to climb to reach the Monschau road. In front of you, you will discover a wooden footbridge that crosses the fen. Recent efforts to restore the fen to its original state have led to changes and make it possible to discover a new birch forest in the making.
