Dorfrundgang Imgenbroich
Monschau
Right opposite the parking lot, we come across the first sight. A fountain with historic millstones gurgles beneath three mighty chestnut trees. Behind it rises an old quarry stone wall integrated into a modern commercial building. It is all that remains of the "Red Building", which once housed the Imgenbroich clothmakers' casino, among other things. The large plaque contains all kinds of interesting facts about the history of the village.
Well informed, we continue our walk past a tastefully staged small pond landscape and then turn into Matthias-Offermann-Straße, which commemorates one of Imgenbroich's most important clothmakers. The narrow street winds its way between old hedges. Well-kept half-timbered houses give an idea of what it was like in old Imgenbroich. In Imgenbroich, a lot has been done to give visitors an insight into the village's history. As on the pastorate, there are bronze plaques on numerous important buildings that provide information about their former use.
We leave the village and walk through pastureland interspersed with hedgerows to the dreamy little village of Menzerath. Behind a quarry stone wall lies an ancient cemetery with remarkable gravestones, about which a map provides detailed information.
Once we have left Menzerath behind us, a wonderful panoramic path with miles of distant views lies ahead of us before the path leads us back to Imgenbroich. Back in the village, the street "Heidbüchel" offers a harmonious mixture of old and new houses, mighty hedges and well-tended front gardens.
Our next destination is the Catholic parish church, from where the route continues to the Bürger-Casino. There you will find the bronze "landmark" of the village - the "Ömmscher Ösel", built in 1997 by the local associations. For those not in the know: "Esel" is the common nickname of the people of Imgenbroich in the Monschau region.
