Dorfrundgang Höfen
Monschau
The village tour starts at the national park gate. Just a few hundred meters after the starting point, we reach the old parish church, whose past dates back to 1697.
Along numerous old half-timbered houses (especially Triftstraße/Hirtenweg), we let our gaze wander across the Perlbachtal valley from the wooded hills around Kalterherberg to the Vennhöfe farms of Mützenich.
Passing well-tended front gardens with magnificent flower beds, we reach the eastern part of the village. Kappersweg and Weiherstraße, with their gnarled hedges, mighty beech trees and romantic half-timbered houses, have also been links between Triftstraße and Hauptstraße since time immemorial.
At "Heckel's Pad", we enter one of the most romantic sections of our tour. The narrow, natural path leads us through hedgerows to the main road.
Shortly before the end of our tour, we reach the swan pond, which was once part of a much larger pond. In the park behind it, we then come across an imposing basalt figure with an eventful history.
