Dorfrundgang Dedenborn

Right at the starting point of the village tour next to Pfarrer-Engels-Platz, we are faced with the first highlight of our hike. The 400-year-old lime tree and the parish church dedicated to St. Michael the Archangel seem to merge into one. The colorful stained glass windows create a festive atmosphere, especially when the sun is shining. They are the work of the artist Erich Charlier, who died in 2015 and designed numerous stained glass windows here in the region. Our path leads past the little houses of the Stations of the Cross built between 1857 and 1863. In front of the former restaurant "Haus Rurblick", we turn into a dirt track. At the edge of the forest, where the path divides, a path leads to the left. We enter an idyllic oak forest that stretches across the steep slopes to the Rur. After about 100 meters, we step out into the open again. We find ourselves on a rocky outcrop, the "Spicher". To our left is the large "White Peace Cross" erected in 1954 by men and young men from Dedenborn to thank them for coming home safely from the Second World War. The slightly ascending path in a westerly direction leads us back to Dedenborn. Again and again, we are fascinated by the magnificent view of the village and the landscape. But we're not going back just yet, because we're awaiting a unique natural phenomenon in Germany. At the end of the village, a rock with strange curvatures rises up to the right of the road. It is a so-called mullion structure. It consists of a graywacke bench split into parallel bulges. The deformation was caused by rock pressure. Dedenborn is a real treat. And if you don't want to miss out on the icing on the cake, don't miss the viewpoint near the "Schöne Aussicht". There is a stone cross on a rocky outcrop from which you can enjoy a uniquely beautiful view. In front of us lies Seifenauel and behind it, enthroned on the ridge, is Dedenborn. The plateau of Huppenbroich and Eicherscheid stretches out in the distance. To our left, we can see the forest-free plateau of the national park and the village of Einruhr down in the valley. We can see the course of the Rur, which has carved itself into the rock of the mountains over thousands of years and formed this wild and romantic valley with its steep, wooded slopes.
