The tour leads through the mountain ranges of the Eifel with its still young national park, into which the Rur and its tributaries have carved deep valleys over the millennia. After just a few kilometers, you reach the first highlight of the tour, the historic center of the idyllic cloth-making town of Monschau. Anyone who has strolled through the old town of Monschau will understand why Monschau is also known as the "Pearl of the Eifel" or the "Rhenish Rothenburg". Virtually nothing has changed in the townscape here for almost 300 years. The idyllic half-timbered houses and quarry stone buildings are unparalleled in their uniqueness today. A town with a historic past and a lively present. In the middle of the winding alleyways of the old town lies the Red House, the town's landmark and symbol of the great cloth-making tradition. A detour to the historic mustard mill is also worthwhile, before the route leads into the romantic Rur valley through the mountainous landscape of the Eifel with its still young national park.

Cyclists will soon be able to enjoy the beautiful Eifel lake district - an unforgettable experience. The view of the lake landscape in Rurberg is impressive, where the Obersee and Rursee lakes merge to form a water surface of around eight square kilometers. With around 205 million cubic meters of water, the Rur dam is the second largest dam in Germany. Cyclists hungry for information can quench their thirst for knowledge at the end of the tour at the Heimbach National Park Gate, the Art Nouveau hydroelectric power station or the Water Information Center, before taking the Rurtalbahn back from Heimbach station via Düren towards Aachen.
