Wildnis-Trail Etappe 2 (Simmerath/Einruhr-Gemünd)
The second stage starts at the Einruhr National Park information point and initially leads along the eastern shore of the Obersee to the height of the Paulushofdamm. On the southern shore of the lake, the route continues to the Urft dam, which was built in 1905 and was the highest dam in Europe at the time. The route then climbs steeply up to the Dreiborn plateau to the deserted village of Wollseifen, which was abandoned by British troops in 1946. You hike across the wide grassland of the Dreiborn plateau, where gorse blooms in early summer, to the former Nazi Ordensburg Vogelsang. After the two viewpoints of Kickley with a view of the Urft valley and Modenhübel with a view of the Kermeter, the trail descends into the Urft valley and along its south bank to Gemünd.
