Trevvel-Route
From the church in Rollesbroich, the tour leads along the sports field out of the village in the direction of the Kalltalsperre dam. Construction of the dam began in 1934 and it was dammed for the first time just two years later. From here, the so-called raw water is transported via a 6.2 km long tunnel to the drinking water treatment plant at the Dreilägerbach dam in Roetgen and supplies drinking water to households in the city of Aachen, the northern city region of Aachen and the district of Heinsberg.
The route continues north along the eastern bank of the dam. Not far from the dam are the so-called Kaiserfelsen rocks. The rocks of this natural monument rise up on both sides of the path in a truly imperial manner and offer an impressive sight. The most beautiful view of the massive Devonian rocks is where the path bends to the left.
Also worth mentioning is the so-called Heinrich-Geis-Stollen, which is passed in the last third of the tour. The 3.7 km long underground tunnel connects the Kalltalsperre dam with the Obersee lake, and thanks to the additional water from the Obersee lake, the entire Aachen region can be supplied with drinking water.
You then return to Rollesbroich, where the church tower shows you the last few meters to the starting point and the beautiful tour comes to an end.
