Tal der Blumen
The hike first takes you along a pond and a mine dump, remnants of the former mining site in Kelmis, which is now covered in extraordinary flora. In spring, you may come across galmei violets and Westphalian fescue. Ladybugs and grasshoppers also feel at home in this place, which exudes a touch of the south. In addition to the pond, which was created to wash out the zinc from the quarries, the rich industrial past has left other traces in the landscape. The hike begins not far from the Eyneburg castle, which does not look out of place in this wonderful setting. At the foot of the hill, the path is easy to follow. The rare paths and small roads lead you through wide pastures and farmland in this agricultural part of the country. Nevertheless, the hike is very varied. Here and there, groves, hedges and fruit trees adorn this landscape, which you walk through with the help of stiles. Nature has worked wonders in the Hohnbach valley and created a small paradise from the former mining area.
