Seifenauel-Runde
Explore the idyllic Rur valley south of Dedenborn on this beautiful short tour. From the starting point, the trail first leads to the Rur, where you can observe the river loops and many beautiful river bends. The landscape in this part of the Rur valley is characterized by extensive floodplain landscapes, as the river flows through the fertile valley in wide loops due to the low gradient until it finally flows into the Obersee near Pleushütte. A floodplain or Auel is the name given to a fertile meadow between the bend in the river and the mountain. The two Dedenborn districts of Rauchenauel and Seifenauel owe their names to the winding course of the Rur with its wide bends.
Further on, you reach the highest point of the tour at the Eifelblick "Schöne Aussicht". King Friedrich Wilhelm IV was so impressed by the beautiful view of Dedenborn and Einruhr that the district administrator and owner of the land, Bernhard Freiherr von Scheibler, had a stone cross erected there in 1887. In addition to a coat of arms, it bore the Latin inscription "Through the cross to the light". The cross was destroyed during the Second World War and later rebuilt. The pedestal is still the original from 1887.
You then return to the starting point in Rauchenauel, where the beautiful tour ends.
