Rur & Kall Radtour
At the beginning of the tour, the cycle path leads along the edge of the Eifel National Park for a short distance. On closer inspection, you can spot many animals and plants, some of which are rare, such as the common lizard sunning itself on a fallen tree trunk or the kingfisher. The "diamond of the air" sits on a branch above the Kall to hunt, then dives into the river as fast as an arrow and catches a fish.
After a steep climb to junction 88 in Schmidt, the trail continues through parts of the Hürtgen Forest and crosses over into the Aachen city region. Here you cross a rebuilt piping on the Tiefenbach II. This conversion measure was implemented as part of the EU nature promotion program "LIFE+". During the five-year project period from 2012 to 2016, the Biological Stations of the district of Düren and the StädteRegion Aachen implemented numerous nature conservation measures of this kind in the Kalltal valley.measures in the Kalltal valley with the aim of promoting the continuity of the small river and sustainably improving the habitat of migratory stream inhabitants such as brown trout, bullhead and small creatures at the bottom of the river.
After passing the Kall dam, which supplies the surrounding villages with drinking water, the tour continues along the Kall, past rugged rocks overgrown with moss, to the picturesque village of Simonskall, which lies in the valley and boasts an idyllic historic town center. Here you can stop for a bite to eat.
Approximately 3 km after Simonskall (just after junction 37), the Mestrenger Mühle mill also invites you to stop for a bite to eat. Here you can view the mill technology, which has been completely preserved in its original state, before continuing along the Kall towards Zweifallshammer and from there back to the starting point in Zerkall via the familiar route.
