Rur-Drosselbach-Runde
The tour starts and ends in the picturesque village of Eicherscheid. It lies in the middle of centuries-old hedgerows and also has a lot of charm in its interior. Listed half-timbered houses, which hide behind meter-high hedges from the strong Eifel wind, small chapels and wayside crosses characterize the village center.
After leaving the idyllic village, the tour leads through the hedgerow landscape of the Monschau region. The beech hedges, some of which are more than 300 years old and as tall as a house, are a special landmark of the region and have been planted here for generations to protect the houses.
After only approx. 700 m, you will reach the ancient wayside cross with the inscription "Protect our homeland", which was restored in 2004. It is part of the long tradition of wayside crosses in the Eifel, which were erected either as a memorial, a place of worship or to give thanks.
We continue through the forest and reach the banks of the Rur. If you deviate from the route here and follow the course of the Drosselbach stream through the forest, you will reach the Alsdorf miner's cross.
The route takes you a little further through the forest until you arrive back in Eicherscheid. Here you can enjoy the flair of the listed half-timbered houses and bring the day to a close.
