First, the circular hike leads through the beautiful Eifel village of Hammer, past the old church, the hammer mill and numerous half-timbered houses. At the end of the village, the trail leads along the Rur and takes you up to the heights of the Eifel forests via a natural path. At the top, you will be rewarded for your efforts. There is a wonderful view of the picturesque Rur valley with its steep, wooded slopes and the winding course of the River Rur. Hammer itself, with its quaint half-timbered houses, is also clearly visible. A bench invites you to rest and linger.

The route then continues from the Rur valley into the Riffelsbach valley, where you cover the last few meters uphill before crossing the Riffelsbach at the southernmost point of the tour. The idyll of nature is omnipresent. Listen to the birds and observe the diverse flora and fauna of the Northern Eifel.

The winding path through the Riffelsbach valley leads past a former orchard. Even though the land has long since been overgrown and reclaimed by nature, you can still clearly see that delicious fruit was once harvested here - as is the case throughout the entire Rur valley. However, the small fish ponds that used to be there some time ago have completely disappeared.

Shortly before the end of the circular tour, a ford and a hollow path can be seen. What we experience today as a quaint hiking trail was once an important transport route. Due to centuries of use by carts and cattle, the path has cut deep into the ground. Where heavy carts once had to be pulled through the stream bed at the ford, a small bridge now makes it easier for hikers to cross before we return to our starting point, the Hammer campsite, shortly afterwards.
