Rennradtour: Rund um Eupen
Stolberg
Ride around Eupen and the dam on this 100km long road bike tour! Characterized by dense forests and beautiful Venn landscapes, this challenging tour offers many impressions and shows the diversity of the region!
The tour starts in Stolberg city center, from where it slowly rolls in - but already undulating - via Büsbach and Breinig in the direction of Mulartshütte and Rott. From Rott, one of the longest climbs in the Eifel begins with the Jägerhausstraße. Passing the picturesque Dreilägerbachtalsperre dam, you get that alpine climbing feeling while the road climbs steadily to an altitude of almost 550m above sea level. Once there, you join the Vennbahn cycle path and descend again until shortly before Raeren, where you leave the Vennbahn cycle path and the tour branches off in the direction of Vennkreuz. The route now leads through dense green forests and almost traffic-free side roads to the Eupener Wesertalsperre, which is circumnavigated once. Here you gain a lot of altitude, as the route climbs up and down to the dam wall of the Weser reservoir before descending to Eupen.
Here, about halfway through the tour, you can take your first break in the beautiful old town of Eupen. From Eupen, the route now descends along the Weser to Limbourg and Dolhain. Here the landscape changes and you get an impression of the Herve countryside, which with its gentle green hills is completely different to the dense green of the Eifel forests or the wide views of the Venn landscape.
Now the route is undulating but mostly flat through beautiful rural landscapes back towards Raeren and Kornelimünster. The historic old town of Kornelimünster is definitely worth a break or photo stop here. From here it is only a stone's throw to the starting point of the tour and the last 7 km still offer a few short crisp climbs, but they are quickly absorbed and a short time later you find yourself in the historic old town of the copper town of Stolberg.
