Püngelbach

The circular tour starts from Einruhr and heads west into the forest along the Rur and its reservoir. After a short time, you will reach the Eifelblick Wolfshügel. This offers a wonderful view of the village of Einruhr and the picturesque Rur dam with its densely wooded rocky slopes. The massive Rur bridge, which you can see in the foreground, was built in the 19th century and was the first stone bridge to cross the Rur. On a clear day, the view extends as far as the district of Düren to Nideggen-Schmidt, where the top of the church tower can be seen in the distance.

From here, you will roam the wooded slopes of the Rur valley and finally reach the Langerscheid nature reserve. Here you can not only discover many different animal and plant species, but also an original drawing by painter Paul Siebertz. The famous Eifel painter was out and about with his pupils here on the Püngelbach and "decorated" a sign in a shelter on a whim.

Only a short time later, the Erkensruhr forest chapel lies along the path. Since the 1980s, people have been coming to the forest chapel above Erkensruhr to pray to the Virgin Mary. The image of the Virgin Mary is located in a tree trunk. Numerous thanksgiving plaques, rosaries and burning candles inside the chapel bear witness to the religious retreat. From the chapel, you have a great view of the Erkensruhr valley. You then walk along the valley back to the starting point in Einruhr.
