The day's stage is just under 60 km long and mostly runs through beautiful, unspoilt countryside with some great highlights along the way. Immediately after the start, you pass through the interesting mining settlement of Eisden-Lanklaar in the shadow of the slag heaps. The green route then turns into the Hoge Kempen National Park, which offers a nice contrast to the industrial landscape and remains a constant companion on the tour until the Europlanetarium at the gates of the city of Genk. On the way, you pass the spectacularly restored winding towers of the Winterslag C-Mine and its renaturalized slag heap landscape. After Zonhoven, the "Domäne Bokrijk", with its large open-air museum and leisure facilities, awaits. The final highlight of the tour is the mining settlement of Beringen-Mijn with the Flemish Mining Museum in what was once Belgium's largest colliery.
