Grünroute: Etappe 3 Tüddern im Selfkant - Voerendaal

Selfkant

On this approximately 55 km long day stage, you leave the Selfkant on varied paths on the Dutch side back south to the Parkstad Limburg.

Between the hills of the Heidenaturpark and the numerous villages of the Parkstad Limburg (consisting of the towns of Heerlen, Kerkrade, Landgraaf and Brunssum as well as four smaller municipalities) you will find numerous picturesque castles and idyllic stream valleys. Above all, however, the mining past can be experienced in the truest sense of the word: In addition to numerous small lakes from the historic open-cast lignite mining, the mighty spoil heaps of the large hard coal mines are particularly visible from afar as a relic of industrial culture. Many of the spoil tips are now renaturalized, near-natural park landscapes or adventure worlds: The Wilhelminaberg in Landgraaf, for example, is home to the longest staircase in the Netherlands or, alternatively, the lift of Europe's largest indoor ski slope.

The stage ends in the small town of Voerendaal near Heerlen.
