From the hiking parking lot, the trail first descends into the Rosental valley, which is characterized by former factory and office buildings.

The next section of the route, accompanied by the rushing of the Rur, leads through an oak slope forest with small streams and jagged, moss-covered rocks. After crossing the Rur bridge, the Kluckbach stream immediately casts its spell over the hiker. Via a section of the Eifelsteig trail, which is one of the top 10 hiking trails in Germany, the forest museum with its historic sawmill powered by water is reached after approx. 650 meters.

With the edge of the forest high above the Rur and Kluckbach streams, the landscape opens up into a soothing expanse. The view sweeps through the Rur valley, to the wooded heights in the north-east or to the Rohrener Heckenland to the right.

There are always new, spectacular views of the old town. From above, the Rosental valley reveals its wild character with the Rur loops and the steep cliffs on the slopes.

On the Kierberg, the Rahmenberg extends to the north with its quarry stone terraces. The Haller, Monschau's first castle, has lost none of its mightiness even as a ruin.

From the Sonntagsley with the Marienkapelle chapel, the center of the historic old town with its sea of slate roofs, the Red House and the Protestant church lies at your feet. The hike takes you another 500 meters along the route of the Eifelsteig trail to Burgau.

The last section of the circular hike begins at the "Haus im Turm", where one of Monschau's town gates once stood. You will once again pass through a forest of centuries-old oak trees. As beams, they support the roofs and intermediate floors of the historic buildings and give the old town streets their unmistakable, picturesque character.
