Dürener Seenrunde
This tour tip takes you along the Rur to the two bathing lakes in Echtz and Gürzenich. Both lakes were created from former open-cast lignite mines and were recultivated at the beginning of the last century. The start and finish is the iPunkt Düren on the market square. On your cycle tour out of town, you will pass the Leopold Hoesch Museum, which is well worth a visit. Continue along the course of the Rur, past the beautiful Merkener Busch nature reserve, a small wooded area that is home to all kinds of wildlife. If you keep your eyes peeled along the Rur, you might spot the tracks of beavers, which have returned to the area. After Merkener Busch, you leave the Rur and turn off towards Merken, where you can take a short detour to take a look at the Inden open-cast mine. The route then continues through beautiful rural areas to Echtz. Here you can take a breather and refresh yourself with a cool drink or a refreshing swim! So don't forget your swimsuit!
After the break, the tour continues through the villages of Konzendorf and Mariaweiler before ending the day at the large bathing lake in Düren. The large, fine sandy beach and the gently sloping shore exude an almost Caribbean flair on beautiful summer days and are ideal for sunbathing and splashing around.Afterwards, the large sun terrace of the lakeside restaurant invites you to replenish your energy reserves with a cool drink or ice cream before walking the short distance remaining to the starting point of the cycle tour.
