Das Vorzimmer des Venns
Ovifat is one of the gateways to the High Fens. You only need to follow one of the streams to reach it. The route leads upstream of the Ghaster. The hike runs slightly above the stream and initially leads into a conifer and beech forest. It is, so to speak, the antechamber to the nearby nature park. The rather narrow path dives into the dark forest, but still reveals two large meadows. With a little nod to the world of the mountains, you cross the surprisingly steep alpine ski slopes twice. A little further on, you reach the other bank via a ford. The pyrite-rich water takes on a reddish hue. You then reach the edge of the forest and can already smell the tart scent of peat. After a final cluster of conifers, the sea of plants of the High Fens opens up. With every step, you dive deeper into this sea and explore its banks. The way back is along the fitness trail and the new houses of Ovifat. They are made of wood, one of them even has a grass roof: this is how the village blends in with its surroundings.
