Das Land der Steine - Rodt

When you reach the edge of the forest, the bluestone houses catch the eye. They are a reminder of the stone industry that lasted from the 18th to the beginning of the 20th century. Several stonemasons, who immigrated between 1725 and 1735, are to thank for the significant upswing in slate mining. Numerous citizens also trained as stonemasons and passed on their craft to their sons. This allowed the tradition of skilled workers in the quarry to live on. The quarrying of this natural stone came to an end in 1907. A century later, the route of the former slate quarry and its bluestone was brought back to life thanks to colossal restoration work. It would be a shame not to take advantage of the hike to visit it. You continue along this beautiful route and reach the heights of Recht, where breathtaking panoramas await. The return through the forest is just as pleasant - there are no houses to be seen anywhere.
