Buchenhallen und Eichenhänge (Themen-Tour 2)

In the middle of a landscape of FOREST and WATER, you can experience the fascination of WILDNESS up close in the Eifel National Park. The national park and its surroundings can be discovered again and again on well-developed, themed hiking routes. 240 kilometers of hiking trails are open to you in the national park. The approx. 14 km long hike leads over the heights of the Kermeter through beech and sessile oak forests, some of which are cut by small notch valleys. At the beginning of the tour, you walk along the banks of Lake Rursee for a few kilometers. Later on, you will come across the beech forests typical of the northern slopes of the Kermeter, which make up around 26% of the forest area in the Eifel National Park. At the fork in the path behind the Ramsau picnic area, you can shorten the tour by taking a ride on the Rurseeflotte.

If you opt for the full tour, you will climb the Weidenauer Berg in tight hairpin bends and reach the ridge of the Kermeter. Beautiful views of the surrounding Eifel landscape accompany you on this section and reward you for the effort of the ascent. Once you reach the top, the Paulushof and Hirschley rest stops, which also offer fantastic views of Lake Rursee and the picturesque forests, invite you to take a break. The trail then leads through beech forests back to the shores of Lake Rur and from there back to the starting point.

Von Erkensruhr durch das Püngel- und Wüstebachtal

This tour takes you through the Püngel and Wüstebach valleys in the Eifel National Park. You hike from Erkensruhr through beech and mixed deciduous forests rich in deadwood, accompanied most of the time by the sound of one of the low mountain streams. The area is rich in flora and fauna. In spring, the daffodil blossom can be experienced, in summer the meadows become colorful thanks to the blooms of numerous wildflower species. At the beginning of 2017, a nature conservation project will come to an end here, which aims to pave the way for nature in the development national park to become wilderness. Some of the measures are visible and explained on the hike. The route consists of paved paths and small trails. The inclines and declines are not extreme, but a little surefootedness is required in a few places. All paths are marked on the hiking map. First you follow the Rur-Olef route upstream above Erkensruhr, then you follow the T3 themed tour, which you only leave for a short section that leads along the Püngelbach stream as a narrow path.
