Wasserburgen-Route: Etappe 4 Jülich- Aachen
This stage connects Jülich, whose approximately 2000-year-old settlement history dates back to Roman times, with the former imperial city of Aachen. You cross a Börden landscape with farmland and man-made river arms, which is one of the most fertile regions in Germany, and at the same time experience a landscape in constant change on the edge of the third largest open-cast mine in the lignite mining area. The gently undulating Börden landscape is followed by the idyllic Wurmtal valley near Herzogenrath. The route meanders along the small river towards Aachen. The absolute highlight of the stage awaits you with the historic old town of Aachen and the World Heritage Aachen Cathedral at the end of the tour, where you can end the day with a leisurely stroll through the city.
