Via Belgica: Etappe 7 (Wandern) Von Baesweiler bis Übach-Palenberg
From Gut Blaustein, we follow the ancient highway and the statue of a legionnaire at the entrance to Boscheln is a reminder of the region's Roman roots. The route continues along the Carolus Magnus spoil tip towards the border, past the water tower, which was once the landmark of the former mine and thus also of the town of Übach-Palenberg. Shortly before the end of our journey into the Roman past, we come across another Roman highlight, the Roman baths, which were discovered in 1988 as part of the development of the local recreation area and preserved following excavations. Via the Wurmtal valley, we finally reach the idyllically situated moated castle of Rimburg, where in Roman times a roadside settlement, the Vicus Rimburg, stretched along both sides of the Wurm. Our journey into the Roman past ends at the train station in Übach-Palenberg and we start our return journey.
