Teufel und Marktfrau
Aachen
If you want to climb the highest point in the city of Aachen, you can't avoid the Devil and the Market Woman. The two sculptures refer to the legend of the creation of the Lousberg, according to which the devil wanted to fill Aachen with sand. After losing his thumb in the cathedral door due to a trick played by the people of Aachen, he wanted to take revenge on the inhabitants, but the cunning market woman prevented him from doing so and the sand from the devil's sack poured out in front of the Aachen valley. This sand formed today's Aachen Lousberg.
