St. Stephanus
Aachen
There is no certainty as to exactly when St. Stephen's was built. However, the ground on the site of today's church has been cultivated since the 1st century AD, which suggests that there was a watchtower here in Roman times. There is also evidence of a Carolingian predecessor building. The fact that the church has not had a tower since a lightning strike in 1830 makes it a special building.
