St. Michael
Aachen
Even though the current church of St. Michael was built at the same time as the neighboring abbey church around 1751, it is still considered the oldest parish church in Burtscheid. It is documented as Leutkirche as early as the 13th century. After the church building had largely fallen into disrepair over the centuries, it was decided to rebuild it in the 17th century. However, the client at the time, Abbess Anna Carola Margarete von Renesse, overstretched herself financially to such an extent that the master builder Johann Josef Couven was only able to continue the construction of the baroque tower in 1891.
