In 1751, the former church of Burtscheid Abbey was rebuilt according to plans by the Aachen master builder Johann Josef Couven. In the style of Aachen Cathedral, the former abbey church has an imposing octagon and its own abbey treasury. Treasures that are over 700 years old can be viewed here. Today, St. Johann-Baptist is one of the two Catholic parishes in the heart of Burtscheid.
