St. Jakob
Aachen
As the Church of St. James, it is the first stop on the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela after Aachen Cathedral. According to legend, Charlemagne founded the church after he returned from liberating the tomb of St. James. It is therefore considered to be the first German church dedicated to St. James. However, its foundation dates back to the 13th century. The church tower can be climbed twice a year, from where you have a wonderful view over Aachen.
