Aachener Dom
Aachen
The history of today's Aachen Cathedral began around 803 AD with the Church of St. Mary. As the burial place of Charlemagne, the coronation church of the Roman-German kings and a pilgrimage church, the cathedral is a true place of pilgrimage. As Germany's first UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is visited by more than 1 million worshippers and tourists every year, either privately or on a guided tour. Every seven years, Christians from all over the world flock to Aachen for the shrine pilgrimage to take a look at the four great shrines venerated there.
To the right of the main entrance is a model of Aachen Cathedral, which is intended to help blind people in particular to feel the extensive building structure. It is not possible to visit the cathedral during church services. Short-term closures due to church events are possible. The cathedral is accessible with restrictions.
